Summer Lovin - Part I

Image
Hey you guys, so how is your summer season coming along so far?  I'll tell you a bit about mine. I made a diet plan, setup an approximate calorie count, workout goals, things were going quite okay, when on day 3 of this meticulous diet, I started craving a Chocolate Ice cream shake ( note the specific details).  Ok, so you are probably thinking nbd right, it is a part of the process; yeah, no. I don't normally have cravings but when I do, lets just say I turn into this person with borderline-stalking -food review pages -maniac phase followed by I -saw -and- read- too much- indecisiveness -at- its- peek. Anyways, after ordering a Kit Kat chocolate ice cream shake, and drag-drinking it for the whole day, my craving now thoroughly satisfied and fulfilled and here Iam , after scraping those last leftover kitkat crunchy bits leftover in the bottom of the cup. So what can we do, irrespective of eating our hearts out and blaming it on the weather. A couple of things ...

When breath becomes Air - A book review

Image
I remember coming across a facebook post in the beginning of 2017, that very briefly stated about a doctor, a very successful one too, who suffered from some form of cancer. At that time I had no idea that it was going to be a best seller or to be available in  any  detailed  form whatsoever. Fast forward to a couple of months, I was talking to a fellow Book enthusiast, who asked me what did I read recently? I told him it was a book by Kathy Reich's & that I wasn't able to catch up on reading for quite a long time due to my studies . He then asked me if I have read "When breath becomes Air" to which I promptly said no, but  yes, I have seen it quite alot of buzz about it on Bookstagram community; to which he then started briefly telling me the story like a true, passionate good story lover.  Anyhow, the reason for telling all this was that, I don't normally go for books that have been created a whole lot of hype about, and suddenly everybody starts re...

Green Thumbing In Karachi

Image
Spring is in the air and summer is just around the corner ( Tbh, being a karachite my whole life, I could never really differentiate anymore than summers and winter seasons). Anyways, so I have always loved plants and love all things gardening, but, having said that, don't really get to spare time for it. I have decided to hopefully, try some of my own green thumb-ing this summer, with help of some local experts of course. Now we all know a bit about the summer and winters fruits and vegetables, but there is obviously alot of great planning behind its planting times, conditions and temperatures. According to the renowned horticulturalist Tofiq Pasha Mooraj.  “We normally start planting summer veggies  from mid-February to mi d-March, as temperatures begin to rise in April,” . During this planting season, all summer vegetables can be sown. Winter vegetables are planted in August. Almost all fruits can be grown in Karachi, such as bananas, papayas, pineapples and mango...

Muslimah 101

Image
As Muslims in general ,and Muslim women in particular , we exist in a system that's a totally different ballgame. I recently came across this article " How will you find a husband as an ambitious ,Muslim woman" and I just went, THIS!! ( Yeah I know I love myself too for being so expressive!) These are some lines quoted from the said article. " There’s this idea that when a woman gets married, she must be willing to forgo her career and ambition and take a step down or a step back. This idea frankly outrages me and what upsets me and needs to change is the fact that women are so accepting of it, largely out of fear and just putting it down to cultural norms. I’m not saying every woman should want to I’m just saying it should be a genuine choice." Working women with high aspirations are seen as disruptors to the whole story book nuclear family in particular to within the minority ethnic groups. But his point was really on the lines of if you’re an ove...
